My outlook on photography has changed in the last 4 years. I've studied many of the art-photographers that influenced this current generation of artists. My work has been influenced greatly by that generation. I think its time to look back at what I was creating in the past, even before Hallmark.
Check out these art-photographers, many of them revolutionized the art-world. Stephen Shore, Jeff Wall, Philip lorca-dicorcia, Alec Soth, Andreas Gursky, Martin Parr, Gregory Crewdson, Thomas Struth, and William Eggelston. Just to name a few. Now these guys (there are plenty of woman- I'll get to that later), are some of the original color contempory artists.
Also check out these two. Two of my favorites. Tim Davis, Mitch Epstein. Contemporary and conceptual photography is a much different world then what Hallmark exposed me to. Beware.
Above and below are the images from Turners Falls, 2006. Also check out HaveYouSeenMyDynamite.com for links to other great artists, my website and current projects I'm working on.

Hey guys, Thanks.
The kids shot is actually one I go back and forth about. I do love the asthetics of the shot as well as the personal story behind it.
Recently I have been aware of the similarities between some of this work and other artists work. I know that "It's all been done before", but that doesn't help me. Richard Renaldi http://www.renaldi.com is a current fixture in the photography art world right now. His work (although never a shot of a group) looks just like this. Normally I wouldn't care but as of now, there has been a ton of this style of work being produced in the art-world, especially Chelsea.
A group show I was just in closed. Before the curator and I made up our minds of what peices were going to be in the show he emailed me and asked me if I "want to show the group of kids that looks like Renaldi"? I said no. - At March 25, 2007 10:07 PM, Wayne Wallace said...

I hear ya, when I was doing my portfolio for Hallmark I tried to not look at to much other work and just go with my own style and try and make it unique.
I don't really look at others work that much. I just go with my own thing. Sometimes I'll look at others work and borrow some technique or style and then try and take it somewhere else.
You're right it's all be done before but the cool thing is we can never capture that same moment so even if the style is the same we can still make it unique in subject matter.
