Portfolio Time

We're currently working on our personal submissions, so here's one shot that I'll be turning in.
School has been great so far, I know that I made the right choice in coming all the way to Mass from San Diego. While I miss the warm weather and all, the cold is a small price to pay for what I have learned and what I'm still learning at Hallmark.
Shooting models is a lot of fun, while I love doing portraiture and its going to be my real money maker, I know that shooting models is always a great way to get all those concepts that I have in my head into a photograph. Since Wayne took over the headshots in Las Vegas, I think I may try my hand in taking over the headshots in San Diego!

Hey Chaz,
Good luck buddy! CA is a crowded market but looking at your work I think you will do well.
Gotta get together sometime for sure when you come back this way and chat about school over a drink.
Keep those images coming. I love to see fresh images from assignment work. - At March 13, 2007 12:10 AM, Gabo Paparazzo said...

thanks for all your comments guys!
raychel: the portfolio is good, my commercial work is terrible, haha, i get into the comm. studio and have no drive to do anything creative.
wayne: hey wayne, def want to meet up with you, i go to vegas about 3-4 times a year, so would love to meet you and see your studio
adam: for the lighting, which we have dubbed "the paul teeling," i used 3 strip soft boxes, the main light at f/8, high pointing down at her at a 45 degree angle. then we have the 2 kickers to the left and right of her, at a half stop over the main. they are kind of feathering her, back half, so its pointing somewhat towards the background. then just a BG light on a parabolic about a stop over. - At March 13, 2007 9:16 AM, raychel deppe said...

so i must say chaz, i am very impressed with your attention to detail in retrospect. those are important things to be aware of (and remember for future situations).
i am always surprised by the number of working professionals who don't pay attention to these things. it's like reinventing the wheel every time they shoot. how does one ever become efficient in his trade this way? but i suppose everyone has their own methods for fluid production.
those 1x4 soft boxes produce an amazing quality of light. if you enjoy working with the soft box strips, i bet you would love the striplights profoto makes. they are insanely expensive but really versatile. you can check them out online at b&h.
thanks for sharing chaz. beautiful work. - At March 13, 2007 8:10 PM, Chaz said...

thanks raychel, i was checking out those strip lights at b&h, those are a pretty big penny, haha. i'd like to play with them some time, hopefully i'll have the opportunity soon.
