Only in Vegas - Elvis Wedding
Monday, October 29, 2007
This wedding was shot at a villa at the Wynn. This is pretty typical for a Vegas wedding. I arrived at the locked doors outside the Villa area a half hour early. No key so I can't get in and I can't get a hold of the bride. I start putting together my system rig and taking test shots in in the hallway. Soon after two security guards show up, guess they saw me on spy cam and ask what I was doing and want to escort me out. I say I'm trying to get behind those locked doors to the villa to shoot a wedding in 15 min and I'm not moving. They try to help but they want me to leave for the other guests safety and privacy. I said no I'm not moving, I was hired to be here and I'm waiting until I get a hold of the bride before I move.
About that time I see a guy that looks like a groom pop out of fort knox. Wow, really nice area back there. I could shoot there all day, pools, bars, bathrooms the size of rooms. So it's a frenzy, the bride is supposed to be getting married in a half hour, people are arriving, brides not dressed. I start snapping detail shots and such, introduce myself. It's a quarter to six and I'm supposed to leave at six and the minister still hasn't shown up yet, I guess his last gig was running a little late.
Finally he shows up singing "viva las vegas" we did and wam bam thank you mam ceremony, and Elvis and I left the building. It was a quick 2 hour gig.
I use a simple flash on camera setup, one lens and one CF card, shoot on large jpg and one set of batteries. A very light load. Very fast moving shoot everything in site, groups, candids, details, pull out the rejects and post them quick for a quick turn around sale.
Here's a small slide show of ones I liked as I was going through deleting the rejects, these are straight out of the camera.
Typical Vegas wedding shoots are quick, down and dirty 1-2 hours, shoot as much as you can, very quickly in a hotel room, a chapel, and maybe a dark reception ball room. I did 3-4 of these a day at the Bellagio. Meet the bride 5 mins before the wedding and knock out what you can in an hour or two.
