What do you use??

So I just got my first print order that was over $1,000!! Exciting right?? Well kind of. See, I post my pictures through a company called collages.net. I love them and their proofing system and they also have great products. The only problem is that whatever my print total is, they take 15% of that. So, while it's convenient that I can post all the pictures up there, give the bride and groom or senior their own username and password and they are able to buy the products through them using a credit card, I take a cut in my profit. What do you guys use for proofing? How do you take credit cards? Do you pay for a machine or am I unaware of some site out there or better way of doing this? After taxes and expenses I'd like to see as much of that money as possible! Please fill me in!!!

I also use Collages.net for all my posting. If using them to allow clients to order I increase all the prices 20% to cover my costs. I let the clients know this and that way they have the option of ordering directly from me for a 20% discount. As for Mastercard and Visa, I accept them, but I call in all my approvals so I don't have the expense of the machine. If you use Quickbooks with windows they have a program to accept credit cards too.

My studio uses eventpix.com for online proofing and PayJunction for credit cards

Eventpix looks like a good deal, but I always wondered how to photographers (who use these online ordering services) handle post processing? Do they retouch everything that goes up on the site? Or are all those orders only going to get images straight out of the camera? Tamee? Anyone else?

I personally retouch all the pictures that go on the site so that people are only seeing the finished product. Yes, it takes time but I actually enjoy all the post-production work so it's not so bad for me.

I do my own online proofing and then have the images processed by White House Custom Color(whcc)... All images are fully edited when placed online to view.

I give a quick retouch to a few and but a separate category on Collages.net called Glenn's favorites all those I jazz up a bit. The clients usually order from those. I use WHCC for all my printing so I just get my orders off of Collages and do all production at that point.
