Very cold! Boonville, Indiana, January, 23, 2008
Tomorrow morning I will leave Boonville, Indiana. I've had a wonderful time and believe that I have produced my best work to date. The last week or so has been filled with lots of shooting and exploring. I committed to working everyday of last week, and only failed to go out once. I spent the last six out of seven days, three to eight hours each day, shooting. And that is all I did. I simply relaxed, didn't talk to anyone, or call anyone (minus a few special ones), and I thought only about photography, and my ideas. It was wonderful, and painful.
Yesterday I finally captured the image I have been searching to get for the last month. Many elements were never perfect, and the other reason was that I would be trespassing to get it, and because I still have a slight pinch of PTSD after almost being killed for doing so in NC, I decided to ask permission, but no one was ever home. Last night the sky and weather was perfect. After driving way out in the middle of nowhere, I find no one is home yet again. Buy I leave in one day, and MUST transfer this image in my head onto film. I set up my 4x5, get out my ladder, set up my lights and wait as long as I can. Nobody. F#$ck it. I go for it. After ten minutes I get it, secure it it with a polaroid, make a slight change, and... Then they came home. This house/trailer is in the middle of nowhere, and there are tons of gear, a car with NY plates, and a strange man flashing lights across their front yard. Thankfully they were kind and understanding, so I finished, and went home, content and ecstatic.
I am off to Minneapolis this weekend to give a talk to the photography Graduate students at the University of Minnesota. I will be in town for a week, meeting up with friends, hanging at the Art Shanty, etc -- If you are in MN, send me an email ([email protected])

sounds cold and maybe a wee-bit unbearable...lol
I think it's in EVERY photographer to trespass every now and again.
great idea for a project, though.
Why film and 4x5's??
