Feedback on my business card
Monday, January 21, 2008
I'd love some feedback on my business card. I kept the same design I did at school but I wanted two sides so came up with the back design. I purposely kept images off my card just to keep it standing out a bit more from all the usual photography business card designs.

It's nice, but other than "images for life" I don't know that you're a photographer.
You could be a graphic designer. You really need to put yourself in the mind of the person you are handing it to, your target audience.
See one of the cards I made here

Hello Kim,
I agree with Wayne that there should be a more obvious indicative that you are a photographer, like instead of just studio, maybe photo studio, or photography.
I also agree with you about images on your card I personally don't like them.
Other then that I really like your design. - At January 22, 2008 11:35 AM, Wayne Wallace said...

We are photographers, if we don't use images in our marketing how can we say other people should be using them. You need a balance of images and effective sales copy.
If you want to stand out from other photographers you need to use better marketing techniques and have a unique value proposition and marketing message for your client to grab onto.
Your card should make people think and say wow how do you do that? or how can I get that?
When you present your card you are hoping to solve someones problem or need. You need to push their buttons and make them respond.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the feedback! Hi Tiago! How are things going? Still in NYC?
The card does actually say "portrait photography" on it, along with "families, engagement, weddings" etc on it, its just not showing up on the screen here. Its faded in the background of the logo. Does that help?
My line of thinking in this is where I live, I have to be a jack of all trades - I want one card that gives me a look so people can identify me with that look. I will have additional cards made up for say portraits and then weddings, but for now I just want a generic look. I also want to stand out from all of the other photographers out there. If you throw 20 business cards of photographers on the ground, how will you tell them all apart???
I want something to help set me apart but I'm not sure how to accomplish it yet. I wnated to hear the feedback to see if I had something there.
My promo cards will have images definately. - At January 22, 2008 5:17 PM, Wayne Wallace said...

It may, but if I can't see it here they I probably could not see it in print either.
No doubt the shotgun or jack of all trades approach will get you work but a much better way is to do targeted marketing with a message that resonates with your audience and gets them to respond.
If you do this you will be different than most photographers.
Many people tell you that you need to specialize and shoot just one thing. You can shoot as many things as you want given the bandwidth and capabilities but what you do need to do is focous your marketing to one type of client.
I get a lot of other work because of my headshot website but I specifically get headshot work because I market it exclusively as a specialist.
