Phase III
Monday, March 10, 2008
We have all been working hard here at Hallmark on our personal submissions. That is what this shot is for. I have to say thanks to Dave Langley for helping me with this. I have been wanting to shoot something like this for a while but didn't know how.
Any words of encouragement from you alumni for us newbies who are entering phase IIII soon?

What a cool photo! I love that!
For Phase 4, I suggest:
1. A good multi vitamin and fish oil pills.
2. Plenty of protein. South Beach Diet makes these great apple raisin high protein granola bars. Buy those and keep from starving. Working exhausted and hungry will produce garbage work.
3. Plan ahead
4. Double & triple book different models for the same assignment. Cover your butt and then pick the best shot from the shoot
5. Take one night off every 3 weeks to get inspired and reduce burnout. Find out what inspires you. (For me, it was trips to Barnes and Noble in Hadley and Starbucks in Amherst)
6. Stop driving yourself crazy with too many opinions from peers/instructors. Ask questions like, "Is this technically correct? Will it pass?" instead of "Here's my 8x10. Do you like it?"
7. Relax. It's just photography. No one's life is in your hands. Chances are, you will pass. - At March 11, 2008 8:55 AM, Kates said...

Faith, those are really good tips. I drove myself into the ground in Phase IV. I literally stayed at the school for 3 days straight (went to class during the day and stayed all night; never leaving) just to get some work done and it was miserable. I know there is a picture out there of me laying on the ground in the foyer area, unshowered and disgusting. There were some other factors at play for me as to why I was there like that but like Faith said, if you are organized and have things well planned out you should be good to go.
And I TOTALLY agree with not getting too many opinions. The only reason I stayed that third day was because someone told me I should change a few certain things, when really, I probably would have been fine without changing those things. You have to really try to not pass. As long as you get everything done and you don't half-ass it, you'll do just fine.
