First Attempt

This is my first ever attempt at a car in-studio. I think it came out alright. Nothing like i planned, but i liked the way it was going so i stuck with it. I know it's not perfect but feedback is definitely welcome.

We had a car photography class at school this year with the newest instructor David Langley. Talk about a wealth of knowledge. I'm not a car photographer like he is but, at first glance I can't tell what kind of car it is. My first suggestion is that you need more light on the near side and a large light source from above to light the hood and roof more.
Darker cars are highly reflective so you'll want to make sure there is nothing above like light fixtures or beams and such cause everything will be reflected in the surface of the car.
I would seriously give David Langley a call at school or find out what his email is and drop him a line. Show him what you've done and pick his brain some. You'll learn a ton! - At July 10, 2008 10:02 PM, Wayne Wallace said...

The larger the light source the better.
I was in a car studio in detroit shooting custom choppers and they had huge motor driven white panel hung from the ceiling which you could tilt any way and bounce light off of and a hugh three sided cyclorama, a car got lost on the set it was so big
for bikes we used a 10'x20' softbox and a bunch of 8' foam core boards
see artofthechopper.com I worked on the second book - At July 11, 2008 7:10 AM, Kates said...

We never had a car lighting class when I was there and I wish we had, just because I'm curious of how it works. You '08 kids are lucky!!
